ROLE OVERVIEW


To provide effective professional surveying, implementing commercial processes and systems on projects, from tender stage to final account

 

MAIN TASKS IN LINE WITH JOB TITLE

 

The following reflect the main tasks associated with your position and are not intended to be exclusive or exhaustive:

  • Provide commercial expertise to aid with the delivery of the contracted work by taking the commercial lead in our team.

  • Provide accurate and timely commercial reports and advice to the management team whilst ensuring the contract achieves the appropriate commercial targets.

  • Responsible for ensuring the project cost, quality and time targets are met.

  • Responsible for ensuring the timely preparation and payment of Sub-contract applications

  • Responsible for ensuring client payment dates are complied with and that all applicable notices are submitted as required

  • Prepare Project Cashflows , projects prior to commencement, and regularly updated as works progress.

  • Provide advice and guidance on commercial and contractual matters.

  • Where necessary, be responsible for ensuring that tendering information for projects is correct, and attend surveys to assist in ensuring that the scope and commercial position of the company is protected

  • Be responsible for the commercial performance of your projects under your remit.

  • Be responsible for the timely budget preparation for each project under your remit, and presentation to senior management for approval.

  • Provide commercial expertise to aid with the delivery of the contracted work by advising the operational lead in the team.

  • Ensure cash in is efficiently tracked and monitored, and any potential issues are notified to accounts, and cashflows are adjusted.

  • Ensure accurate monthly Cost Value Reports (CVR) are prepared and critically assessed for margin recovery, labour spends, and variation recovery, prior to monthly reviews by senior management.

  • Review and comment upon all contractual correspondence issued by site.

  • Build a close relationship with the Project Contracts Manager for the allotted project to ensure the goals for the productivity within the work area are fully met, and assisting the operations team with their customer relationship.

  • Assist in the feedback from Lessons learned, to ensure sufficiency of budgets for construction, and future tendering is informed of pertinent issues arising for the works.

  • Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of the commercial data and record keeping at site level, with particular attention paid to the labour profiles, and monitoring of same. Also to enable the operational lead to have clarity on any weekly over or underspend on the projected labour profile.

  • Preparation of all Sub-contracts to meet the company standards.

  • Management of subcontract accounts, including procurement, review, payments, variations and final accounts & ensuring that commercial issues are resolved and payments are timely and correct.

  • Identifying, raising and pricing of variations in line with the change control process including identification, measurement claims and rogue rates.

  • Obtain maximum recovery through accurate measurement of the works completed.

  • As part of the overall management team take responsibility regarding health, safety and the environment providing commercial support.

  • Managing, Leading, Coaching and advising direct reports on Projects and Leading, Coaching and advising Junior QS team where applicable.

  • Abide by Company Policies and Procedures.

 

What you’ll bring:

As NTS Project Quantity Surveyor your main skills and experience will include:

Essential:

  • BSc in Quantity Surveying (or other equivalent commercially related discipline)

  • Working towards RICS qualification or equivalent chartered qualification

  • The ability to manage others within a project team.

  • Experience in managing full functionality and contract practice. Management the core change control process under such contract conditions as the JCT provisions, NEC etc.

  • Experience of supply chain engagement including ITT preparation, analysis negotiation and selection assessment to place orders.

  • A thorough understanding of Cost Value Reconciliation (CVR), preparation, detailed forecasting principles and monthly reporting.

  • Negotiation and settlement of disputes and accounts relating both to customers and suppliers.

  • Experience of dispute resolution techniques, namely, conciliation, adjudication, mediation.

  • Ability to work in a team environment contributing across a business unit or area.

  • Good management skills, with the ability to motivate self and colleagues to achieve high standards of compliance, and effective liaison with key clients.
